Zakaatul-Fitr, the charity of breaking the fast, is obligatory on each Muslim young or old, male or female, rich or poor, if he owns extra food that exceeds the needs of him and his dependents for a period of twenty-four hours. A Muslim should pay on his behalf and on the behalf of his dependents that he supports such as his wife and children, etc.

Zakaatul-Fitr can be given anytime during Ramadaan, however, it must be given before the Eid prayer.

Zakaatul-Fitr is given to poor Muslims, whose income is less than their basic needs.
