Why do we need to expand our facilities?

• An auditorium/prayer hall is needed for special activities and Friday prayers.
• Proper classrooms, lab & library are needed for school.
• Sisters need a separate area to accommodate their special needs.
• Conference rooms & media center are essential along with a larger library and cafeteria.
• Also space to initiate a new business to cover some of the center’s expenses is vital to sustain the operations of the center.

• Majlis-Ashura of the IAR has been debating this for the last two years. The following are the reasons for expanding the current facilities:
  • The Morrisville land will take 3-4 years for developing the plans and get city approval
  • The cost will exceed seven million dollars
  • The size of the road to the land is too small, and big traffic problems are anticipated.
• Advantages for expanding at the current location include:
  • We have the approval of the city
  • Will finish in 2 years if the funds are available
  • The cost will be closer to three million dollars.

When will construction for new phase start?

Depending on the availability of funds, work could begin as early as Summer 2004.

How long is construction going to last?

The proposed expansion will be carried out in two stages:

• First stage: a shell for the three floors will be built, it will take between 9 & 12 months.
• Second stage: internal layout and final finish; it will take between 6 & 12 months.

How will construction impact the services at the Islamic Center?

Some of the services offered at the Islamic Center will be affected during the construction phase. The Islamic center will inform you on time with the necessary steps.

How can I help ?

This expansion project is for the benefit all members of the community. Hence we request that you:

• Donate generously as we are completely dependent on Allah first & then on you for funding this project.
• Be patient and cooperate with the Islamic Center at all levels during this exciting period.
• Follow management directives for parking and facilities use.

Since parking is already a problem at the IAR, will the expansion make it worse?

• No. We are not anticipating any parking issues
• The IAR has worked hard to land a space sharing agreement with NC State University.
• The IAR continues to actively pursue other ways and means of reducing and/or managing traffic.

What are the long term plans for the present location?

This is the last phase for expansion at our current location. The long term plan is to build a larger facility in the Morrisville land.
