IAR Brief History
 

1981 Immigrant Muslims in the area form the Islamic Association of North Carolina (IANC). Friday prayers initially held at apartment complex King’s Village). Later on, Friday prayers held at NC State University Student Center. Eid prayers held in parking lots.
1984-1985 MSA/IANC collects money from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and from members to build the first mosque in Raleigh in 1985. With many students returning to their home countries, the MSA and local Muslims joined hands to form the Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR).
1985 Full time Imam arrives at the IAR from Jordan.
1987-1988 Al-Furqan School (weekend Sunday Islamic school) for Muslim children initiated. The second floor of the Islamic Center is completed.
1990 Youth Group established at the IAR to organize activities for youth.
1992 Al-Iman full-time Islamic School with N.C. Curriculum established.
1995 IAR purchases land in Wake County (Zebulon) for a Muslim cemetery.
1996 Purchased the land adjacent to Islamic Center.
1998-1999 Construction initiated for the new Masjid and completed in one year.
The new building has a prayer hall, full service kitchen and a multipurpose hall (Gym).
2000 Al Bayan, Qura’nic School for children and adults started.
2001 The IAR purchased a 12 AC land in Morrisville for future development.
2001 Friday prayers in two shifts started to accommodate the increasing numbers of Muslims.
2002 Construction initiated for the second phase of expansion.
2002 First three huffaz graduate from Al-Bayan School
2003 Two additional huffaz graduated from Al-Bayan School
2004 Friday prayers in 3 shifts started to address traffic and parking challenges.
