Allegiance and Disallegiance (Part II)

(Speech was delivered by Imam Mohamed Baianonie at the Islamic Center of Raleigh, N. C., on October 18, 1996)

Last Friday, we knew that the concept of allegiance and Disallegiance is a very important issue of the Islamic aqeedah, Belief; it is inherently implied in "La Ilaha Illa Lah" and it is inseparable from it; that is if a person does not abide by the allegiance and Disallegiance the way "La Ilaha Illa Lah" dictates, he may get out of Islam (may Allah forbid) This is so because of many clearly supporting Qur’anic verses concerning the concept of allegiance and Disallegiance.

We also knew that the meaning of allegiance that Allah forbids the believers to have to the disbelievers is alliance, co-support and cooperation.

In this speech, we continue talking about the concept of allegiance and Disallegiance because of its importance. We will list all the acts that the scholars of aqeedah consider in the category of allegiance to the non-believers- with supporting evidence.

1. In the category of allegiance to the non-believers is following their desires. Allah forbade His prophet (S.A.W.) and every Muslim, till the Last Day, to have this kind of allegiance when he said in surat Al-Baqarah, (verse 120), what can be translated as, "The Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you till you follow them. Say (Muhammad) the guidance of Allah is the guidance, and if you (Muhammad) follow their desires after the knowledge that came to you, then Allah is not your ally nor your supporter."

2. In the category of allegiance to the non-believers is obeying them with what they order and allude to or point to in any religious matter or any Muslims’ affair. Allah warned us from this when He said in surat Ali-Emran, (verse 149), what can be translated as, "O you who believe, if you obey those who disbelieve, then they will turn you back and you end up losers." Allah also said in another verse, surat Al-An’aam, (verse 121), what can be translated as, "Verily, the devils inspire their allies to argue with you, and if you obey them, then you are definitely mushriks."

3. In the category of allegiance to the non-believers is to incline toward them and be pleased with what they offer in any religious matter or any Muslims’ affair, Allah warned us from that when He said in surat Huod, (verse 113), what can be Translated as, "And do not incline to those who oppressed themselves. Otherwise, fire will touch you." Because of dangerous inclination to non-believers Allah had Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) in surat Al-Isra’a, (verse 74 & 75), what can be translated as, "And if We had not made you stand firm you would nearly have inclined to them a little. Then had We made you taste a double (punishment) in this life and a double (punishment) after death, then you will not find a helper against Us."

4. In the category of allegiance to the non-believers is to deceive them, to make court to them, and to shine up to them sacrificing your deen and to make compromise with them. Allah revealed to the prophet (S.A.W.) that this is one of their goals that they strive for and work diligently to achieve them when he said in surat Al-Qalam, (verse 8 & 9), what can be translated as, "Do not obey the liars; they wish that you deceive them so that they will deceive you."

5. Also, in the category of allegiance to the non-believers is to love that are against Allah and His messenger. Allah said in surat Al-Mujadilah, (verse 22), what can be translated as, "You do not find people who believe in Allah and in The Last Day loving those who are against Allah, and His messenger even if they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their tribes."

6. Also, in the category of allegiance to the non-believers is generosity to the non-believers and making them affectionately close (especially the current rulers of Muslims) and seeking their advice in the affairs of Muslims and taking them as intimates and helping them with their oppression and supporting them and adopting their laws and their ways in ruling the Muslims and raising their kids.

7. Also, in the category of allegiance to the non-believers is conspiring with them and planning and implementing their plans and joining their organizations and their alliances.

8. Also, in the category of allegiance to the non-believers is embellishing their ideas, their values and their outlooks and advocating them and calling for them.

He whose conduct is characterized by these acts or some of them is actually pleased with the disbelief. So, he will be like them and even be one of them. He is a disbeliever, even if he prays fasts and claims to be a Muslim. Nothing will save him from Hell Fire except a new belief and abandoning allegiance to the non-believers.
